Born on 31 May 1986 in Chapra, Bihar, she was raised with strong connections to Bihar and Jharkhand. She is the daughter of Late Devendra Kumar and Mrs. Veena Rai, and is married to Abhinash Singh. Her siblings are Vikash Rai, Navneet Kumar Yadav, Guriya Rai and Neha Rai. Her grandfather is Shri Udit Rai, former Cabinet Minister, Government of Bihar.
Madhurima completed her schooling at DAV Public School, Bistupur, Jamshedpur. She pursued Bachelor of Arts from Sunrise University, Alwar, Rajasthan, and Postgraduate Studies in Political Science from Radha Govind University, Ramgarh, Jharkhand. She also has an educational association with GIIT Jamshedpur.
